Getting started
How do I use activity and the assistant in the studio?
Follow project changes and assistant tasks in the studio, check who requested each action, and give the PlanElec assistant instructions in your own words.
Activity & assistant brings your conversations and tasks with the PlanElec assistant together with confirmed project changes. The assistant is available to every signed-in user: it carries out instructions directly in the project, checks every change with the AREI self-check and keeps it ready as a single undo step. Confirmed team changes appear once project history is enabled for your account.
How do I open the panel?
Open a project in the studio. Use the switch at the bottom of the side mode bar (rail), the bot button on the right of the header, or ⌘J on a Mac / Ctrl+J. The panel opens beside the workspace; on narrow screens it appears as a sheet.
Use ⌘K / Ctrl+K to open command search. Then Send to assistant: “…” appears when your search has no matches or contains at least four words. Selecting it opens the panel and immediately sends the search text as a task.
Opening project history from the project menu or history button shows team activity in the studio. Outside the studio, it opens the separate history sheet.
What do the filters show?
The timeline groups entries by day, with the newest day first. Within a day, entries run from earliest to latest. The header also shows how many members are online.
Each change made by a member shows who modified the project: avatar and name, the change and the time. A member who has left the project appears as Former member.
| Filter | Content |
|---|---|
| All | Loaded project changes, assistant messages and actions. |
| Team | All loaded project changes, including assistant changes requested by other team members. |
| Assistant | Assistant conversations and actions, plus saved changes marked as originating from the assistant. |
The filter bar appears when both history and assistant access are available. With access to just one area, its content appears directly. You can load older project changes. Where a target is available, View opens its current state, not a historical project copy.
How do I give and review a task?
- Type your question or describe the change you want in the input field.
- Select Send message or press Enter. Shift+Enter adds a new line.
- Review the response and action cards, including the tool, status and person who requested each action.
- If an action requires confirmation, review it and choose Confirm and run or Reject and cancel run.
While a task is running, the send button becomes Cancel (square icon). It stops the running task; it does not automatically reverse changes already made.
How do I dictate a task?
When your browser supports microphone recording, the microphone button Dictate sits on the right of the input bar. The first time, your browser asks for permission to use the microphone for PlanElec.
- Place the cursor where the text should appear in the input field and choose Dictate.
- Speak your task in the interface language, for example: “Hallway, north wall: three sockets, 30 centimetres above finished floor.” Level bars and a timer show that recording is running.
- Choose Use recording (tick) or press Enter. After a short transcription, the recognised text appears at the cursor position.
- Check and correct the text, then send it as usual. Dictated text is never sent automatically.
Discard recording (X) or Esc ends the recording without text. A recording stops automatically after 2 minutes; the timer changes colour ten seconds before. If the browser blocks the microphone, a notice appears below the input field; allow access in your browser's site settings.
| Situation | Notice below the input field |
|---|---|
| Microphone access blocked | Allow access in the browser settings |
| No microphone found | Plug in a microphone or use another device |
| Nothing recognised | Speak again, more clearly |
| Many recordings in a short time | Wait a moment |
| AI allowance not sufficient | Transcription counts towards the AI allowance |
Where does my voice data go?
After Use recording, your browser sends the recording to PlanElec. PlanElec forwards it through the AI service OpenRouter to the ElevenLabs speech recognition model Scribe and receives only the recognised text. The request asks for providers that neither store the data nor use it for training. PlanElec stores neither the recording nor its text; only what you then send as a task is saved. Discarded recordings never leave your device.
Can the assistant place boxes on a wall with exact dimensions?
Yes. One sentence with room, wall, distance and height is enough, for example: “Hallway, north wall: three sockets, 30 cm above the finished floor, the first 45 cm from the left corner, axis spacing 71 mm”. The assistant passes the dimensions in metres; the exact position is calculated from them. In this example the three sockets share one frame with their axes at 0.45 m, 0.521 m and 0.592 m. You can type the sentence or speak it with Dictate.
| In the sentence | How it is applied |
|---|---|
| “north wall”, “east wall” | The wall that faces this compass direction as seen from inside the room. The set north direction applies; without a north direction, plan-up counts as north and the result says so. |
| “from the left corner”, “from the right corner” | Left and right are seen from inside the room, facing the wall. The distance is measured on the inner face from the inner corner, so the thickness of the adjoining wall is already deducted. |
| “the first 45 cm”, “centre 1.20 m” | Distance to the first box axis or to the centre of the frame. |
| “axis spacing 71 mm”, “double socket” | Several boxes in one shared frame with 71 mm axis spacing, at most five. Any other axis spacing is rejected. |
| “1.5 m apart” | Separate frames with this centre-to-centre distance. |
| “30 cm above the finished floor” | Height of the box centre, stored as the device’s own mounting height. Without a height, the standard height of the device type applies. |
Several sockets in one frame become one device with several outlets, like a double socket. Switches, Ethernet and coaxial outlets in one frame form a shared frame group. Supported are sockets, splashproof sockets, switches, roller shutter switches (single only) and Ethernet and coaxial outlets. Push buttons are still placed one by one.
If a detail does not fit, the assistant places nothing and states the reason: for example when the position falls into a door, a box already sits at that spot at the same height, the height exceeds the room height, or several walls of the room face the same direction. Nothing is moved silently. On request, the assistant first creates a preview without changing anything. The placed row is a single undo step.
How can I recognise an assistant change?
Each agent action appears with the person who requested it in the activity panel. Saved assistant changes have a bot tile and Assistant · on behalf of … in project history. The name identifies the member who gave the task, including when you review another member's changes. The marker remains visible with history access even without your own chat access.
Outside the studio, the history sheet shows a small bot icon next to the actor. Hover over it or focus it with the keyboard to read Assistant on behalf of …. Conversations and read-only actions are not saved project changes.
Can I undo an agent action?
Supported, completed project changes offer Undo on their action card. It is enabled only for the latest eligible change with a valid undo entry and matching project context. Answers, read-only actions and unsupported actions do not offer this option. A history entry alone is not a restore button. After undoing a change, check the action status and the project.
Important for electrical planning
These guides explain the software workflow. Have the design, installation and documents reviewed by a qualified electrician where needed; only an accredited inspection body performs the official inspection.
